Top Cosmetic Surgeries Vary By Age
Posted December 24, 2019 in Plastic Surgery News, by Dr. Fiorillo
Each year, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) releases multi-specialty data for cosmetic surgery in the US. This year’s results have been released, and a few interesting trends stood out to us. One of these trends was how cosmetic surgeries varied by age group.
Based on the most recent ASAPS data, here were the top cosmetic surgeries among different age groups in 2011:
- Among 19 – 24 year olds: Breast Augmentation
Breast Augmentation Surgery works to give women with small or unevenly-sized breasts a fuller, better-proportioned bustline. This is achieved through the placement of breast implants—typically, silicone or saline. Breast augmentation can often be combined with other procedures such as Breast Lift Surgery.
- Among 35 – 50 year olds: Liposuction
According to the ASAPS, Liposuction—also known as lipoplasty—was the top surgical cosmetic procedure among 35 – 50 year olds in 2011. Liposuction uses a special suction tool to remove unwanted, exercise-resistant fat from the body. The most popular liposuction sites include the midsection and thighs among others.
- Among 51 – 64 year olds: Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty goes by names: eyelid surgery, eyelid lift, etc. No matter what you call it, the procedure is simple. During a blepharoplasty, we remove excess fat, skin and muscle from the eyelids, to combat the appearance of drooping, sagging eyelids.
- Among those 65+: Facelift
For those over the age of 65, Facelift Surgery came in at number one. During a facelift procedure, we tighten underlying facial muscles and redrape the skin around the neck and face. For many patients, a facelift can take several years off their appearance.
