Human Growth Factors (HGF)

Human Growth Factors (HGF) Injections and Facials in Pearl River, NY

They say “time heals all”, but not when it comes to skin. Due to stress, poor diets, poor health habits, environmental issues and some diseases, our skin can and will show the effects as time goes on and we get older. We have many means of rejuvenating that glow of youth and HGF treatment is one rising in popularity.

What is HGF?

Human Growth Factors is derived from blood. It is a concentration of tiny blood and protein and carries more growth factors than whole blood. The blood is your own, drawn up using Eclipse 22 ML high concentration collection tubes (Others use 8 – 12 mL).

  • How can HGF help me?

HGF contains growth factors and proteins called “cytokines” that affect the behavior of cells around them, stimulating the healing of soft tissue. In restorative medical treatments and dermatology, HGF can aid in the healing of hair-loss both for men and women, healing of wounds and rejuvenating of skin.

  • Am I a good candidate for HGF?

For hair loss, if you have spots of weak hair growth or small balding spots, then HGF could be a good option for you. For your face, if you have some damage to your skin due to acne or other scarring, then a HGF facial could be a great option. Or if you are beginning to show signs of aging with small wrinkles around your eyes, nose or mouth, then HGF injections could help to smooth out your features.

  • How do I prepare for my HGF treatment?

On the day before your treatment, drink 2 glasses of water at breakfast, lunch, and dinner (total of 6 glasses). On the day of your treatment drink a bottle of water (500 mL) before your session. Eat your normal meals, per your daily schedule.
For all other precautions, and pre- and post-treatment preparations, please discuss these with Dr. Fiorillo as they can depend on what type of treatment you are getting.

  • What can I expect when I get my HGF treatment?

You will have blood drawn just like you would if you were going to a blood bank or getting a blood test. Your blood will be put through a centrifuge to separate the plasma and tiny blood from the other cells. The area of treatment will be prepared. If you are receiving injections, you will be anesthetized. If you are receiving a facial, you will have microneedling or lasering of the area, in order to prepare your skin to receive the facial treatment.

  • What is recovery like?

In general, you will be able to go back to your normal activities immediately after treatments. Keep well-hydrated, both on the skin and by drinking plenty of water.

There may be some redness or some minor bruising, or tenderness on the first day, similar to sunburn. On the second day, the redness should decrease. There may also be a rough texture to the skin that might last for a week. With light makeup, you can go back to your regular activities. If you have any concerns before or issues after, be sure to contact Dr. Fiorillo’s office to discuss.

  • How soon will results show?

In general, results show in about three months, as the cells grow and collagen increases.

  • Do I need to do follow up treatments?

Yes, the standard is every six months.

  • Are there any risks

Since HGF is directly from your own body, this reduces the risk of allergic reactions.
Whenever a needle is put into your skin, there is always a risk for infection, bleeding, or nerve damage. To reduce any and all risks, be sure to follow Dr. Fiorillo’s pre- and post-treatment protocol as closely as possible and always ask questions if something is not clear.
