Dysport® is an injection treatment that is FDA-approved to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, by relaxing facial muscles on the forehead. It is comparable to BOTOX® Cosmetic.
Dysport® is injected directly into the site of the wrinkles to prevent contraction of the underlying muscles. The difference between Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic is that Dysport® diffuses into the muscles up to three centimeters from the injection point, while BOTOX® Cosmetic can only reach one centimeter. This allows for a single injection to reach more area.
What can Dysport® do for me?
As we age, skin loses its elasticity and the creases in our face turn into permanent lines and wrinkles. How is the procedure performed?
For most patients, the area between the eyebrows is the target injection site for Dysport®. This will immobilize the facial muscles in the forehead that cause unattractive frown lines.
In general, the injections are painless and do not require anesthesia, however sometimes a numbing agent will be used to help minimize discomfort, especially if the patient is anxious about the procedure. Treatment sessions can be less than 15 minutes, and may be administered at six-week intervals. What are the potential risks of Dysport®?
There are certain risks associated with any kind of procedure, but Dysport® is considered safe for most patients. Some risks may be related to allergic reactions or a condition known as ptosis (droopiness of the eyelid).

What is the recovery from Dysport® like?
Some patients may experience mild side effects immediately after treatment. These side effects may be soreness and bruising at the injection site, possibly with a headache for several hours after the treatment. Side effects will resolve themselves and can be relieved with mild painkillers.
Within one to seven days after treatment, the results of the Dysport® injections will be visible. However, most patients see results on day three. Dysport® is broken down more slowly by the body due to containing less protein than BOTOX® Cosmetic, and can last as long as 13 months.
