Breast Augmentation With Fat Transfer
Breast augmentation is used to enhance the size and shape of a patient’s breasts. The more traditional method uses a silicone shell implant to provide extra volume as desired. However, many women desire enhanced breasts but do not feel comfortable with the idea of breast implants. That’s where fat transfer comes in.
Dr. Fiorillo, a double board-certified New York plastic surgeon, offers breast augmentation without implants. Instead, he uses fat drawn from other areas of the body to enhance the breasts with the patient’s tissues. This procedure eliminates risks associated with breast implants and provides natural-looking breast enhancement.
Am I a Candidate for Breast Augmentation Through Fat Grafting?
Candidates for breast augmentation via fat grafting should be in good health with no medical conditions that could inhibit healing. Ideal candidates should have unwanted fat deposits that can be harvested for the fat grafting process. The most common fat deposits are found on the belly, flanks, thighs, and hips. Candidates should compare the benefits and costs of breast augmentation via traditional implants and fat transfer augmentation during their consultation with Dr. Fiorillo.
Schedule your consultation with the Advanced Plastic Surgery Center to determine if you are a candidate for breast augmentation through fat grafting.
How Is Breast Augmentation Via Fat Transfer Performed?
A breast augmentation fat graft begins with a liposuction procedure that harvests fat cells from areas of the body where fat is undesirable. The harvested fat is then purified, cleaned, and injected into the breasts. This process uses living fat cells taken directly from the patient, eliminating the risk of rejection by the immune system.
Because the body will absorb some of the transferred fat after injection, Dr. Fiorillo will inject a greater volume of fat than desired.
What Is Recovery Like After Fat-Based Breast Augmentation?
During the first few days, patients can expect soreness and mild to moderate pain in their breasts. By the second week, most patients return to work and resume light daily activities. By week four, almost all patients can resume most daily activities. By week eight, most patients may resume vigorous exercise. Patients will need to wear a compression garment and avoid placing pressure or strain on their breasts (including while sleeping) throughout their recovery period.
Be sure to ask Dr. Fiorillo about your personal breast augmentation recovery timeline during your consultation.
What Results Can I Expect After My Breast Augmentation?
After your fat-based breast augmentation, expect swelling and discomfort around your breasts for a few weeks. Initial results will become visible within three to five weeks after your operation. The final results will become apparent within six months to a year.
Some fat will be gradually absorbed over the first six months to a year following the procedure. This is expected, and Dr. Fiorillo will ensure that enough fat is injected to provide the long-lasting results you desire.
