Body Lift

Body LiftDr. Fiorillo (Plastic Surgeon Pearl River NY) can give you a firmer body

Loose, sagging skin and uneven contours cannot always be improved or eliminated by exercise and a healthy diet. Aging, sun damage, cellulite, genetics, pregnancy and weight fluctuations all can contribute to lack of elasticity in muscle and skin tissue, causing sagging in the thighs, buttocks and abdomen.

You may be able to achieve a firmer more youthful-looking body by having a body lift procedure, explained in detail, by Dr. Fiorillo in this video on 12 to Your Health.

What can a body lift do for me?

A belt lipectomy (body lift), removes excess skin or fatty tissue that results from age or extreme weight loss. It is more extensive than just a tummy tuck, as it is performed on the lower torso and upper legs. It also re-sculpts the abdomen, hips, back, buttocks and outer thighs.

Am I a good candidate for a body lift?

If you have had gastric bypass surgery, intestinal bypass surgery, changed nutrition and fitness habits and lost a large amount of weight due to any of these, you probably have a lot of excess skin and therefore, are an excellent candidate for this procedure. Other people who are unable to lose 30 to 40 pounds with diet and exercise, may opt for this procedure as well. This is also an option for normal-weight women after losing post-pregnancy weight, who want to remove excess skin, to return to their pre-pregnancy shape. As the expert Plastic Surgeon in Pearl River NY, Dr. Fiorillo will help you determine if you are a good candidate for a body lift.

How is the procedure performed?

Depending on the needs of the patient, the procedure differs. But in most cases, with the patient under general anesthesia, Dr. Fiorillo will first remove the excess skin from the navel to the pubic area, then tighten the abdominal wall muscle. This is usually the area that is loosened by pregnancy or excessive weight loss. Then he will pull down the fat and skin from above the navel and suture it in place and ensure the navel is correctly positioned.

Dr. Fiorillo will then move on to the buttock and thigh area, making incisions as inconspicuous as possible. If there is excess fat to be removed, liposuction will be applied. The entire body lift procedure is about 3 to 7 hours

What is the recovery from a body lift like?

This is a major surgical procedure and will require significant recovery time. Most patients will remain in the hospital approximately 1 to 3 nights after the surgery, and typically return to work in 4 to 6 weeks. Patients should get up and walk after the surgery, but should avoid other exercise until there is sufficient healing. This is usually within a period of about 6 to 8 weeks. For most patients, in about 6 weeks, almost 75% of the swelling has subsided, and in about 3 months, 90% of the swelling has completely disappeared.

Dr. Fiorillo, as the foremost, highly-skilled Plastic Surgeon in Pearl River NY will instruct you regarding pre and post-operation self care. Following his instructions will significantly reduce the possibility of side effects.

What are the possible risks of a body lift?
