What are Gummy Bear Breast Implants?

Pregnancy, smoking, age, and extreme loss of weight can change the appearance of the breasts, making them appear untoned. This happens when Cooper’s ligaments stretch out and if the skin has lost its elasticity, the breast sags.

While there is often no medical condition causing this, some women feel less confident and look for solutions to get the desired breast shape and size. With the advancements in medical technology, several breast augmentation options are available.

Understanding Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy bear implants are among the latest implant solutions used to enhance the size and shape of a patient’s breast. Gummy bear implants are thicker at the bottom and tapered towards the top to look like a teardrop. During the surgery, the surgeon makes a small incision and places the implant under or over the pectoral muscle.

What are Gummy Bear Breast Implants Made of?

Unlike traditional implants that use soft and elastic gel, the gummy bear is made of denser silicone materials that have a thick consistency. This is achieved by cross-linking the molecules to create a solid and stable filling.

Pros of Gummy Bear Breast Implants

Gummy bear implants are made as a better breast augmentation option. Here are some of its advantages.

1. Natural Look and Feel

The design of these implants gives a more realistic outcome. They have a shape and texture to give the natural contours and consistency of a normal breast. Also, once the implant is placed, it retains its original shape even as you change positions in your daily activities. You can lie down, stand, or lean over without compromising your breast appearance.

2. Less Complications

There is a reduced likelihood of implants rupturing because the material used in the shell does not move. If there is a rupture, the sturdy material prevents the filling material from leaking into the nearby tissues.

With other types, the breast can have ridges or folds after the surgery, but the gel in gummy bear implants reduces the possibility of this complication. There is also a reduced risk of capsular contracture– a condition where fibrous tissue forms around the implant after the augmentation, leading to asymmetry, pain, and an unpleasant appearance.

Cons of Gummy Bear Breast Implants

Gummy bear implants have several aesthetic benefits, but they have some disadvantages.

1. Cost

Due to their reduced risk of complications and the manufacturing process, gummy bear breast implants can be more expensive than traditional methods of breast augmentation.

2. Surgery Risks

Because of the thick silicone and the design, the surgeon has to make a longer incision to insert the implant. This can lead to larger scarring. There is also the possibility of complications common in surgery, including excess bleeding, development of infections, and pain. You may also notice changes in nipple sensations.
