Treat Yourself To Some Light

Posted October 21, 2014 in BroadBand Light (BBL), by Dr. Fiorillo

In our arsenal of anti-aging procedures, we have incredible treatments that use different forms of light. Under the name BroadBand Light (BBL), the treatments can be customized for your particular concern, from aging to sun damage to various medical concerns such as acne, freckles and age spots, vascular problems, like rosacea and cherry angiomas, even hair removal.

SkinTyte is an “in between” stage, taking care of what creams cannot take care of and where surgery would be too drastic. There is no discomfort associated with the treatment. A gel is applied to the skin and then the hand-held device is gently moved over the treatment area. In general, most patients describe the feeling of a rubber band being snapped on the skin, as a series of light pulses are repeated over and over. The pulsed light provides heat in deeper tissue, while surface tissue is protected. The heat causes collagen to coagulate and encourages the body to create more. Thus increasing the firmness and elasticity of the skin, smoothing and filling in wrinkles and lines. Typically, 3 – 6 treatments about 3 weeks apart is sufficient to see results you will be happy with. For other issues, the treatment is the same, but there are filters to allow different waves of light through, in order to pinpoint the problem area.

The after effects are minor, there may be some redness or darkening of the treated areas and some peeling after a few days, but overall the results will begin to show within a few weeks. Follow the pre-treatment and post-treatment instructions, to avoid bruising or trauma to the area.
