A controversial study last year found that following a liposuction procedure, fat can return to untreated areas of the body – the abdomen, arms, etc. While many found this claim suspicious at best, there wasn’t much research out there to refute it – until now! In a recent press release, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons outlines a new study showing that “liposuction lives up to its promise.”
According to the ASPS release, “The new study … evaluated 301 patients having liposuction, either alone or in combination with abdominoplasty, using standardized photographs and computer-assisted measurements of body dimensions obtained preoperatively and at least three months after surgery.” What did researchers find? “The study revealed no evidence of fat regrowth in treated areas of the arms, abdomen, or lower body. Additionally, upper body dimensions were unchanged after surgery, indicating no fat redistribution.”
While this only represents one study, for many folks, it’s putting that rumor to bed!
What Can Liposuction Do for Me?
Are you ready to explore liposuction for the first time? You may be wondering, “What can liposuction do for me?” Here’s a brief introduction.
First and foremost, liposuction is not a weight loss solution. Rather, the procedure works to combat problem areas of stubborn, exercise-resistant fat. As one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures around, common liposuction sites include the thighs, abdomen, arms, back and hips. Generally, liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. Small incisions are made and fat is precisely removed using a thin tube. Stitches are not usually required.
