The first thing you need to know about liposuction is that it is not a treatment for weight loss. The goal of liposuction in New York is to shape those areas where stubborn pockets of fat remain after the ideal weight has been attained through proper diet and exercise. Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes tough fat deposits using suction.

You are a good candidate for liposuction if you are close to your ideal weight (at least within 20 to 30 percent of it) and in good health. The best candidate is someone who has a positive outlook as well as a realistic outlook on what to expect from the procedure. What is extremely important in getting the best results from liposuction is sift, supple skin which has good elasticity and good muscle tone. If your weight loss from dieting and exercising is significant, to the point where you have loose skin which hangs from your body you may not be a good candidate for this procedure, but don’t despair, there are treatments which will work equally as well if not better for this problem.

Don’t think that you can have liposuction treatments and get rid of 50 pounds of fat that has built up over the years, you can’t; this is unrealistic. What you can expect however is the removal of between one and 10 pounds of fat. Liposuction will not remove cellulite either; there are other treatments for this condition.

Once you have reached the point where you can go no further in eliminating the stubborn fat deposits, make an appointment with a cosmetic surgeon. During the initial consultation, the surgeon will want details about your health history as well as your weight history. When it has been agreed that your health will allow for the treatment, the doctor may tell you to cease taking certain medications, especially aspirin or any other anti-inflammatory drug as these drugs may increase the amount of bleeding during the surgery.

The surgery itself is straight forward and most patients find that they can return to non-strenuous routines with a few days. If you have strenuous work you should consider having the liposuction in New York at the beginning of a two-week vacation as it will take that long before you can resume your work. It is very important that you care for the incision sites; do not subject them to any abrasion or excessive straining until fully healed.
