3 Minute Read:

During this COVID-19 pandemic, it can be hard to decide if it is safe to get a plastic surgery procedure. We have been keeping track of local and national developments in the fight against COVID-19, and are willing to share what we know.

Be aware that this pandemic can change rapidly, so if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us directly.

If you are worried about getting cosmetic or reconstructive surgery amid the COVID-19 pandemic, here is what you need to know about Dr. Fiorillo’s precautions.

Can You Perform Elective Surgeries in New York Amid COVID-19?

Current government guidelines from the New York State Department of Health and the federal Center for Disease Control have indicated that medical facilities based in New York may resume elective surgeries. This is contingent upon facilities following safety guidelines, including being able to convert into emergency overflow medical facilities within a short period. We have done our very best to meet those guidelines, and are currently open. This may change on short notice if the Department of Health or the CDC guidelines change.

We have also been following guidelines offered by both the CDC and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons to ensure the safety of both patients and staff in our offices, operating rooms, and other facilities.

What Are the Safety Considerations Placed During COVID-19?

The primary danger in the spread of COVID-19 appears to be via person to person transmission due to respiratory droplets that are released during activities such as sneezing, coughing, and talking without adequate facial coverings (such as cloth masks).

Based on this information, we have decided to prioritize procedures that do not require extensive action around the face. This will reduce the risk of patients inadvertently infecting our medical professionals. Instead, we have chosen to prioritize procedures such as:

By offering these procedures in a safe environment, while our medical professionals wear appropriate personal protective gear, we will ensure that our patients and staff are both as safe as possible.

What Does This Mean for Your Plastic Surgery?

What that means for our patients is simple. For the moment, it is currently safe to come in for elective surgeries. Our office has implemented a series of new safety protocols to ensure that we do our part to prevent COVID-19 transmission in our medical facility. In addition, we are promoting the use of remote consultations to reduce the number of patients who need to enter our facility. We also ask that all patients wear masks when entering our offices and maintain social distancing guidelines to the best degree possible.

Given these safety precautions and the current situation, we firmly believe that our patients can come in to get their plastic surgery procedures done safely.
