Back in January, I wrote a blog about rumors circulating the internet that Clay Aiken had underwent cosmetic surgery on his face. Aiken, who turns 34 this year, has finally put those rumors to bed. Canadian newspaper, Toronto Sun, is reporting that Aiken has owned up to his surgery.
“Singer Clay Aiken has come clean about his cosmetic surgery makeover for the new season of U.S. reality show Celebrity Apprentice,” reports Toronto Sun. “He revealed, ‘I had surgery on my jaw for a TMJ (Temporomandibular joint) disorder thing and I had them suck the fat out of my chin while they were in there.’” The American Idol runner up made his liposuction confession on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live. And, Aiken isn’t alone. According to the most recent male cosmetic surgical data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, liposuction is the third most popular cosmetic surgery among men.
Clay Aiken’s recent admission brings to light an interesting fact – more men are seeking plastic surgery. As thousands and thousands of men are choosing to go under the knife, the taboo of male plastic surgery is becoming a thing of the past.
Here are a few of the most popular cosmetic procedures among men today:

Lindsay Lohan has done a lot lately to shed her party-girl image. Today, the International Business Times is asking, did Lindsay also do a lot—to her face? Lohan, who has become known more for her criminal record than her acting, sat down with Matt Lauer to explain that her partying days are behind her. What was more surprising, however, was how she looked.
“Fans could not help but notice how drastically different the actress’ face looked,” reports the IBTimes. “Skeptics took to Twitter to voice their critiques on Lohan’s new look and bring up the possibility of plastic surgery.” The paper then sought the opinion of a plastic surgeon who was quoted as saying, “‘She looks like she has had an excessive amount of filler injected in her face…’”
So, while cosmetic treatments like injectable fillers can make many patients look younger and fresher, they can absolutely be taken too far.
Why do countless women and men opt for injectables every year? The answer is simple—they work! Based on the most recent data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, BOTOX® and Fillers are the number one category when it comes to cosmetic procedures in the US. As with all cosmetic treatments, though, moderation is key. It’s all about achieving a natural, refreshed and beautiful look.
The two major categories of injections:
Botulinum Toxin Type A: Botulinum Toxin Type A is a category that includes BOTOX® and Dysport®. Both are essentially muscle relaxers that work to prevent creases from forming in the skin. These treatments work best on lines that appear intermittently, such as “frown lines.” For wrinkles that are deeper or more persistent, fillers are often the better option.
Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® work to fill in the spaces or “valleys” of creases. Certain fillers can also be used to plump the lips and give the face a more youthful shape.

If you watched last night’s Academy Awards, you know exactly who won for best supporting actress—Octavia Spencer, the actress behind the outspoken “Minny Jackson” character in 2011’s, The Help. Known for her comedic timing, the Alabama native is making headlines today for something other than her acting—her plans to undergo cosmetic surgery.
In the week leading up to the Oscars, Spencer sat down with celebrity news magazine, Parade. Among topics discussed was the actress’ plan to undergo plastic surgery. When the magazine asked about giving herself a “splurge gift,” Spencer responded, “Well, I am going to get my boobs lifted. That’s going to be my first gift. I’m going to do that.” Breast lifts are one of the most popular cosmetic breast surgeries in the US, second only to breast augmentation. Spencer went on to say that she was planning to undergo the surgery in November. Until then, she will be out of the country, shooting for a new Diablo Cody film.
Each year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) releases statistics on cosmetic procedures performed in the US. The 2011 data has just been published, and overall, Cosmetic Breast Surgery is on the rise. Here are some of the cosmetic breast procedures women are turning to every day:

If there was ever a poster child for plastic surgery, it’s been Joan Rivers. Never shy about her relationship with cosmetic treatment, the Brooklyn native has spoken in the past of having work done. Of course, the exact number of times Rivers has gone under the knife has only been speculation—until now. According to a report from TVNZ, the comedienne is speaking out on just how many cosmetic procedures she’s had over the years. The number may surprise you.
According to TVNZ, “The 78-year-old TV personality revealed she has gone under the knife more than 700 times…” Beyond coming clean about the number, Rivers went on to joke about her plastic surgery past. “Speaking on TV talk show Anderson, she said: ‘Every weekend I just go in and I do something new. I get a 10th one free. It’s a little like coffee you just keep going,’” says the article. While Rivers seems to be making light of her situation, countless others are asking themselves if this amount of work is appropriate or healthy. And, while this number likely includes regular, minor treatments such as injections, the question remains: Is Joan Rivers surgery-obsessed?
Rivers’ recent admission starts an interesting conversation about healthy attitudes and expectations about plastic surgery. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) lists some key factors that help determine good candidates for cosmetic surgery. First and foremost, a good surgical candidate has “realistic expectations of the surgery itself,” says the ASPS. Unrealistic goals are a surefire way to ensure dissatisfaction and remorse.
Further, a patient should have a “good self-image, but a concern about a bothersome feature or a moderately diminished self-image due to the cosmetic defect.” Plastic surgery is not a panacea, and should not be treated as such. While there are other factors that determine plastic surgery candidacy, these are two concepts that every patient should know and understand.

Celebrity news website, RadarOnline, is reporting on some new rumors circulating the internet that Cameron Diaz has had some more work done on her face. The article quotes one plastic surgeon as saying, “There’s something about Cameron Diaz’s face that is very unusual.” While some are saying her new waxy, unnatural look could be attributed to a facelift, others are suggesting it’s simply the result of laser treatments and chemical peels.
Diaz, who rose to fame with the film There’s Something About Mary, will be turning 40 this year. RadarOnline suggests that age could be playing a role. The actress may have “gone to extremes to turn back the clock before her landmark birthday,” says the site. “[She] seems to have gone out of her way to prove she is young, carefree and single!”
Whether or not the Cameron Diaz rumors are true, it brings up an interesting question: Why do so many people choose plastic surgery around age 40? Like it or not, turning 40 is a milestone in our society—and one that should be celebrated. Of course, our body will change around that age too. Those in their 40s can start to see sagging eyelids, facial creases and a host of other issues. For many, these unwanted changes can cause a great deal of distress and hurt their self confidence. Thankfully, cosmetic surgery can often be of help.
A few popular cosmetic treatments among 40-somethings:

Clay Aiken, American Idol runner-up and wildly successful singer-songwriter, came under the microscope recently due to a growing number of plastic surgery rumors circulating the internet. Many believe that Aiken, who is slated to appear on this season of The Celebrity Apprentice, has had some work done on his face. The National Ledger is not shying away from the topic. In reference to new promotional photos of Aiken, a recent article reads, “With the new Celebrity Apprentice cast, we now have a question that asks, did Clay Aiken get plastic surgery?”
In their usual style, Clay Aiken fans—often referred to as “Claymates”—came to his defense. In fact, celebrity news site, Lalate, is reporting that “Clay Aiken fans are furious.” Why are fans so mad? It’s not the plastic surgery rumors, themselves. It’s the fact articles have been downplaying Aiken’s charitable work as a cast member on The Celebrity Apprentice.
The recent Clay Aiken rumors bring to light the growing trend of men going under the knife. Today, more and more men are seeking out many of the same cosmetic facial surgeries as women.
Here are the top Facial Surgeries among men, based on data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons:
1. Nose Reshaping: Nose Reshaping—also known as “rhinoplasty”—is a surgery used to correct or enhance a nose that appears too large on the face, has a bump on the nasal bridge, seems too wide or appears crooked.
2. Eyelid Surgery: Eyelid Surgery is a procedure used to combat eyelids that had drooped or sagged with age. This procedure removes excess skin, fat and muscle from the eyelids, and many men find that it takes years off their face.

While each patient’s plastic surgery needs are unique, many look to their favorite celebrities to help set their own cosmetic goals. In fact, a recent report from The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) lists some commonly sought-after celebrity looks, citing a group of British plastic surgeons. According to the article, “Among patients who want body-transforming surgeries such as liposuction, body contouring and tummy tucks, the most sought-after celebrity looks include actress Jennifer Aniston and supermodel Gisele Bundchen. When it comes to nose jobs, doctors say many patients want theirs to resemble Natalie Portman’s or Emma Stone’s.”
Women aren’t the only ones who are turning to Hollywood to find the looks they want. The ASAPS article reports that, “Men often want their nose to look like Jude Law’s, their lips like Ashton Kutcher’s, their skin like Neil Patrick Harris’ and their body like Mark Wahlberg’s…” It’s clear now that celebrities influence the way we think about plastic surgery, but how much can we rely on the looks of others to establish our own goals? Read on to find out.
Although celebrity looks can be a starting point for establishing cosmetic goals, it’s important to keep your expectations realistic. We can’t all look like Jude Law or Jennifer Aniston, but for many, plastic surgery can make a world of difference. The most important thing to do is to learn what you can realistically expect from a cosmetic procedure. The way to do that is to schedule a consultation.
During your consultation, we will sit down to discuss your cosmetic goals and whether or not you’re a good candidate for plastic surgery. Together, we can determine the best course of treatment for your specific needs. Also, we will be able to discuss any risks associated with plastic surgery as well as what you can expect on the day of your procedure. We’re here to guide you through the entire process, but you have to take the first step: schedule an appointment.

English actor, Daniel Craig, was recently quoted on the possibility that he may need Botox in the near future. Craig, who starred in the two most recent James Bond films, also lends his ability to the 2011 film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Now at the center of two film series, the actor had something to say about the potential for cosmetic treatment. According to the Press Association, when he was “Asked about the prospect of carrying two franchises, Daniel joked: ‘I’m going to be very old. Botox is going to be in there!’”
Craig’s recent openness says a lot about the way men’s attitudes toward plastic surgery have changed in recent years. Procedures that were once only popular among women are now performed on thousands of men every year. One of these treatments is BOTOX®. BOTOX—often referred to as “Bro-Tox” among male patients—is the most common cosmetic procedure performed in America according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The organization reports that nearly 337,000 Botulinum Toxin Type A (ie., BOTOX® and Dysport®) procedures were performed on men in 2010.
For those with creases that appear intermittently, such as while smiling or squinting, BOTOX is often the answer. BOTOX is essentially a muscle relaxer intended to prevent creases for an overall more youthful and fresh appearance. Of course, with this new interest from men comes new considerations. Male patients want to enhance their appearance without compromising their natural, masculine looks. We can work together to establish your cosmetic goals and find the best treatment options suited to your needs and concerns.

The famous—or perhaps, infamous—JWoww has recently spoken out, denying rumors that she underwent cosmetic surgery on her face. JWoww, born Jennifer Farley, is a native of Upstate New York, but it’s Jersey where she made a name for herself. An original cast member on MTV’s hit series, Jersey Shore, Farley became known for her tough-girl attitude. She has spoken openly about her breast augmentation, but recent rumors have been circulating on the possibility that she had work done on her face. Farley spoke out on the Wendy Williams show in an attempt to put these claims to rest once and for all. “I want to put it out there,” said the Jersey Shore cast member, “I want to prove everyone wrong.”
Even though JWoww is denying that she’s undergone plastic surgery on her face, it brings to light some of the cosmetic procedures that countless men and women turn to every year.
