Cameron Diaz Surgery Rumors & Why 40 Matters

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Celebrity news website, RadarOnline, is reporting on some new rumors circulating the internet that Cameron Diaz has had some more work done on her face.  The article quotes one plastic surgeon as saying, “There’s something about Cameron Diaz’s face that is very unusual.”  While some are saying her new waxy, unnatural look could be attributed to a facelift, others are suggesting it’s simply the result of laser treatments and chemical peels.

Diaz, who rose to fame with the film There’s Something About Mary, will be turning 40 this year.  RadarOnline suggests that age could be playing a role.  The actress may have “gone to extremes to turn back the clock before her landmark birthday,” says the site.  “[She] seems to have gone out of her way to prove she is young, carefree and single!”

Why Turning 40 Matters

Whether or not the Cameron Diaz rumors are true, it brings up an interesting question: Why do so many people choose plastic surgery around age 40?  Like it or not, turning 40 is a milestone in our society—and one that should be celebrated.  Of course, our body will change around that age too.  Those in their 40s can start to see sagging eyelids, facial creases and a host of other issues.  For many, these unwanted changes can cause a great deal of distress and hurt their self confidence.  Thankfully, cosmetic surgery can often be of help.

A few popular cosmetic treatments among 40-somethings:

  • Eyelid Lift: Eyelid surgery—also known as Blepharoplasty—is one of the most common procedures among women and men.  Blepharoplasty can enhance the appearance of drooping or sagging eyelids by tightening muscles and tissue or removing excess fat and skin.
  • Facelift: Facelift Surgery is a procedure used to combat facial sagging and drooping.  This procedure works by tightening underlying muscles and redraping the skin around the neck and face. For many, the result is a fresher, more youthful appearance.
  • Botox: For those seeking out a less-invasive treatment for facial creases, Botox is often the answer.  A Botox Injection is essentially a muscle relaxer that helps to prevent creases from forming in the skin. Botox works best on creases that appear intermittently, such as crow’s feet or smile lines.  Although not a permanent fix, results will typically last several months.

Beyonce Welcomes First Child | Is a Mommy Makeover in Her Future?

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Wildly successful power-couple, Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z, are celebrating the birth of their daughter, Blue Ivy.  This is the couple’s first child together, and according to one report from ABC News, Knowles is claiming that this was a “natural” birth.  Of course, natural childbirth can often change a woman’s body adversely.  These changes include unwanted flabbiness in the midsection, and some are speculating that Beyonce may be exploring a “mommy makeover” in the near future.

Knowles—who rose to fame as the lead singer of Destiny’s Child—may be no stranger to plastic surgery.  According to rumors circulating the internet, some believe that the singer/songwriter underwent a Nose Surgery among other cosmetic treatments.  Whether or not these rumors are true, it’s quite possible that Beyonce may soon be looking for ways to get back to her pre-baby body.  Read on to learn a bit about the mommy makeover today.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

Like it or not, a woman’s body changes postpartum.  To combat this, many opt for what is called a “mommy makeover.”  These procedures can often help correct physical changes caused by childbirth and breastfeeding.

Common mommy makeover procedures:

  • Breast lift: Following pregnancy and breastfeeding, many women find that their breasts have sagged or drooped.  Thankfully, a Breast Lift can often correct this.  A breast lift—also known as mastopexy—is a surgery designed to provide a more lifted and youthful bust.
  • Tummy tuck: Even the fittest of women can experience flabbiness after childbirth.  To combat this, many new mothers choose to undergo a Tummy Tuck, a procedure used to help flatten and shape the abdomen.
  • Liposuction: When diet and exercise simply aren’t enough, many women opt for liposuction.  During the procedure, we remove persistent, excess fat from the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks and/or thighs.

“Did Clay Aiken Get Plastic Surgery?” Asks The National Ledger

Friday, January 6th, 2012

Clay Aiken, American Idol runner-up and wildly successful singer-songwriter, came under the microscope recently due to a growing number of plastic surgery rumors circulating the internet.  Many believe that Aiken, who is slated to appear on this season of The Celebrity Apprentice, has had some work done on his face.  The National Ledger is not shying away from the topic.  In reference to new promotional photos of Aiken, a recent article reads, “With the new Celebrity Apprentice cast, we now have a question that asks, did Clay Aiken get plastic surgery?”

In their usual style, Clay Aiken fans—often referred to as “Claymates”—came to his defense.  In fact, celebrity news site, Lalate, is reporting that “Clay Aiken fans are furious.”  Why are fans so mad?  It’s not the plastic surgery rumors, themselves.  It’s the fact articles have been downplaying Aiken’s charitable work as a cast member on The Celebrity Apprentice.

Men Turning to Cosmetic Facial Surgery

The recent Clay Aiken rumors bring to light the growing trend of men going under the knife.  Today, more and more men are seeking out many of the same cosmetic facial surgeries as women.

Here are the top Facial Surgeries among men, based on data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons:

1.    Nose Reshaping:  Nose Reshaping—also known as “rhinoplasty”—is a surgery used to correct or enhance a nose that appears too large on the face, has a bump on the nasal bridge, seems too wide or appears crooked.

2.    Eyelid Surgery:  Eyelid Surgery is a procedure used to combat eyelids that had drooped or sagged with age.  This procedure removes excess skin, fat and muscle from the eyelids, and many men find that it takes years off their face.

The Looks We Look To: How Hollywood Affects Plastic Surgery

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

While each patient’s plastic surgery needs are unique, many look to their favorite celebrities to help set their own cosmetic goals.  In fact, a recent report from The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) lists some commonly sought-after celebrity looks, citing a group of British plastic surgeons.  According to the article, “Among patients who want body-transforming surgeries such as liposuction, body contouring and tummy tucks, the most sought-after celebrity looks include actress Jennifer Aniston and supermodel Gisele Bundchen.  When it comes to nose jobs, doctors say many patients want theirs to resemble Natalie Portman’s or Emma Stone’s.”

Women aren’t the only ones who are turning to Hollywood to find the looks they want.  The ASAPS article reports that, “Men often want their nose to look like Jude Law’s, their lips like Ashton Kutcher’s, their skin like Neil Patrick Harris’ and their body like Mark Wahlberg’s…”  It’s clear now that celebrities influence the way we think about plastic surgery, but how much can we rely on the looks of others to establish our own goals?  Read on to find out.

Keeping Realistic and Exploring Your Options

Although celebrity looks can be a starting point for establishing cosmetic goals, it’s important to keep your expectations realistic.  We can’t all look like Jude Law or Jennifer Aniston, but for many, plastic surgery can make a world of difference.  The most important thing to do is to learn what you can realistically expect from a cosmetic procedure.  The way to do that is to schedule a consultation.

During your consultation, we will sit down to discuss your cosmetic goals and whether or not you’re a good candidate for plastic surgery.  Together, we can determine the best course of treatment for your specific needs.  Also, we will be able to discuss any risks associated with plastic surgery as well as what you can expect on the day of your procedure.  We’re here to guide you through the entire process, but you have to take the first step: schedule an appointment.

James Bond Star Says He May Be Needing Botox Soon

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

English actor, Daniel Craig, was recently quoted on the possibility that he may need Botox in the near future.  Craig, who starred in the two most recent James Bond films, also lends his ability to the 2011 film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  Now at the center of two film series, the actor had something to say about the potential for cosmetic treatment.  According to the Press Association, when he was “Asked about the prospect of carrying two franchises, Daniel joked: ‘I’m going to be very old. Botox is going to be in there!’”

The Growing Trend of “Bro-Tox”

Craig’s recent openness says a lot about the way men’s attitudes toward plastic surgery have changed in recent years.  Procedures that were once only popular among women are now performed on thousands of men every year.  One of these treatments is Botox.  Botox—often referred to as “Bro-Tox” among male patients—is the most common cosmetic procedure performed in America according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).  The organization reports that nearly 337,000 Botulinum Toxin Type A (ie., Botox and Dysport) procedures were performed on men in 2010.

For those with creases that appear intermittently, such as while smiling or squinting, Botox is often the answer.  Botox is essentially a muscle relaxer intended to prevent creases for an overall more youthful and fresh appearance.  Of course, with this new interest from men comes new considerations.  Male patients want to enhance their appearance without compromising their natural, masculine looks.  We can work together to establish your cosmetic goals and find the best treatment options suited to your needs and concerns.

JWoww Speaks Out Against Plastic Surgery Rumors

Friday, December 9th, 2011

The famous—or perhaps, infamous—JWoww has recently spoken out, denying rumors that she underwent cosmetic surgery on her face.  JWoww, born Jennifer Farley, is a native of Upstate New York, but it’s Jersey where she made a name for herself.  An original cast member on MTV’s hit series, Jersey Shore, Farley became known for her tough-girl attitude.  She has spoken openly about her breast augmentation, but recent rumors have been circulating on the possibility that she had work done on her face.  Farley spoke out on the Wendy Williams show in an attempt to put these claims to rest once and for all. “I want to put it out there,” said the Jersey Shore cast member, “I want to prove everyone wrong.”

Facial Cosmetic Surgery Today

Even though JWoww is denying that she’s undergone plastic surgery on her face, it brings to light some of the cosmetic procedures that countless men and women turn to every year.

A handful of facial procedures we offer:

  • Rhinoplasty: Rhinoplasty is a nose surgery also known as a “nose job.”  It is often used to correct or enhance a nose that appears too large on the face, has a bump on the nasal bridge, seems too wide or appears crooked. Those that are unhappy with the look of their nose often turn to rhinoplasty as a means of enhancing appearance and boosting self confidence.
  • Chin surgery: For those with concerns of a weak chin or a lack of facial harmony, implants are often the answer.  Some patients with a particularly prominent nose have also benefited from chin implants, as they can aid in boosting facial balance.
  • Lip enhancement: There are a myriad of lip enhancements available to you.  Some take the form of injections and some are accomplished through surgical means.  No matter the method, lip enhancement is for those wishing to have fuller, more attractive lips.

Ali Lohan Denies Claims of Plastic Surgery

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Ali Lohan, younger sister of the infamous Lindsay Lohan, is denying all rumors that she has undergone plastic surgery to alter her appearance.  The seventeen year old aspiring model was recently the focus of heavy media speculation that she went under the knife at far too young an age.  Recent photographs have caused many to believe that Lohan has had cosmetic treatments on her cheeks, eyebrows, nose and lips.  Although the photographs are compelling, Lohan’s people suggest she was simply going through a growth spurt.  Ali, herself, has also spoken out to deny the rumors.

Who is a Good Candidate for Cosmetic Surgery?

The recent Ali Lohan plastic surgery rumors beg some interesting questions about what makes a good candidate for plastic surgery.  Of course, age is a consideration.  For nose surgery, good candidates are those whose facial growth is complete.  For procedures such as liposuction, there are other age factors to consider, namely the patient’s emotional and psychological development.  Lohan’s age was a driving force behind the recent rumors, but it’s not just age that needs to be considered.  Here are a few other criteria for good cosmetic surgery candidates.

Good candidates for cosmetic surgery…

  • …are in good health.
  • …are non-smokers or are committed to not smoking for a period of time before and after their surgery.
  • …have had stable weight for six months to a year.
  • …are realistic in their surgery goals.
  • …have discussed all the benefits and risks of surgery with their doctor.

Did Kate Gosselin Have Work Done?

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

A famous working mother of 8 children, 36-year-old reality star Kate Gosselin is looking particularly good lately. So has she had plastic surgery? A recent article speculates on the procedures that Kate could theoretically have had to keep her looking as camera-ready as she does.

What Might Account for Kate’s Good Looks?

Kate might have simply lost some weight in the past year, and it can be hard to tell what changes in appearance are simply due to different lighting or camera angles. On the other hand, it’s also possible that she may have undergone one or more plastic surgery procedures. Botox injections, for example, could account for her smooth-skinned, wrinkle-free forehead. An eyelid lift might be the reason her eyes have been looking younger. It’s possible that her plump cheeks and the overall smoothness and fullness of her face are due to fat injections, and she might owe the tightness of her jaw line and neck to a well-performed mini-facelift.

There is an extensive range of facial procedures that can help you stay fresh and younger-looking. If you’re considering getting work done yourself, contact us for a consultation to learn more about our services.

Is Plastic Surgery the Way to Spiritual Satisfaction?

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Celebrity Heidi Montag is perhaps better known for her seeming addiction to plastic surgery than for anything else.  At the age of 23, the already attractive Montag famously underwent a staggering 10 procedures in a single day. But can we consider her quest for bodily perfection to be a spiritual one? A recent article ponders this question.

Suffering for Perfection

While many people consider plastic surgery to correct specific bodily issues, most of us would likely draw the line at just one or a few procedures. And although we might agree that moving our bodies closer to our ideals provides a measure of happiness, would we really claim to be more spiritually satisfied? It’s hard to say. Physical suffering has long been affiliated with spiritual piety, and this is the connection made by Montag and others, while admitting that “it’s what’s inside that counts.” On the other hand, as a culture we do place great value on physical appearance, so perhaps, as the article suggests, we bear some responsibility for encouraging the surgery-obsessed.

Make Sure That Surgery is Right for You

While we can’t promise that plastic surgery will fulfill your spiritual needs, there’s no denying that looking your best can help make you happier and more confident. Contact us for a consultation, and find out if plastic surgery is right for you.

Movie Explores the Future of Plastic Surgery

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

A new movie that is about to hit theaters will explore a different side of plastic surgery. It may cause viewers to question the future of the industry. “The Skin I Live In” is a movie starring Antonio Banderas.

The actor plays a plastic surgeon who decides to create a fire retardant substitute for skin after his wife passes away due to burn symptoms.  The movie has a rather dark tone as the doctor featured is deeply troubled. However, it does also shed light on where medicine may be heading. The movie shows the main character traveling to numerous conferences as he experiments with recent medical technology in his personal lab.

It is a theme that may have seemed far-fetched a decade ago. Today, with successful face transplants and other major medical breakthroughs occurring, it is not so unrealistic.

Whether you love or hate the movie, the commentary about the plastic surgery field is undeniable.
