In the past, many plastic surgery techniques were reserved only for the fairer sex. Times have changed, and The Today Show is now reporting on couples who are seeking cosmetic treatment together. The report features one couple—The Almeases—who had cosmetic treatments together to “slow the signs of aging.” The pair opted for BOTOX®, fillers and laser treatments, with both ending up happy with their results.
The piece also addressed the way men’s attitudes toward cosmetic treatment has shifted in recent years. It cites a statistic from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, that “men accounted for 1.1 million of the country’s cosmetic procedures” in 2010. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more couples coming in for cosmetic treatment in the years to come. Read on to learn more about the cosmetic procedures more couples may be opting for in the near future.

While each patient’s plastic surgery needs are unique, many look to their favorite celebrities to help set their own cosmetic goals. In fact, a recent report from The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) lists some commonly sought-after celebrity looks, citing a group of British plastic surgeons. According to the article, “Among patients who want body-transforming surgeries such as liposuction, body contouring and tummy tucks, the most sought-after celebrity looks include actress Jennifer Aniston and supermodel Gisele Bundchen. When it comes to nose jobs, doctors say many patients want theirs to resemble Natalie Portman’s or Emma Stone’s.”
Women aren’t the only ones who are turning to Hollywood to find the looks they want. The ASAPS article reports that, “Men often want their nose to look like Jude Law’s, their lips like Ashton Kutcher’s, their skin like Neil Patrick Harris’ and their body like Mark Wahlberg’s…” It’s clear now that celebrities influence the way we think about plastic surgery, but how much can we rely on the looks of others to establish our own goals? Read on to find out.
Although celebrity looks can be a starting point for establishing cosmetic goals, it’s important to keep your expectations realistic. We can’t all look like Jude Law or Jennifer Aniston, but for many, plastic surgery can make a world of difference. The most important thing to do is to learn what you can realistically expect from a cosmetic procedure. The way to do that is to schedule a consultation.
During your consultation, we will sit down to discuss your cosmetic goals and whether or not you’re a good candidate for plastic surgery. Together, we can determine the best course of treatment for your specific needs. Also, we will be able to discuss any risks associated with plastic surgery as well as what you can expect on the day of your procedure. We’re here to guide you through the entire process, but you have to take the first step: schedule an appointment.

English actor, Daniel Craig, was recently quoted on the possibility that he may need Botox in the near future. Craig, who starred in the two most recent James Bond films, also lends his ability to the 2011 film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Now at the center of two film series, the actor had something to say about the potential for cosmetic treatment. According to the Press Association, when he was “Asked about the prospect of carrying two franchises, Daniel joked: ‘I’m going to be very old. Botox is going to be in there!’”
Craig’s recent openness says a lot about the way men’s attitudes toward plastic surgery have changed in recent years. Procedures that were once only popular among women are now performed on thousands of men every year. One of these treatments is BOTOX®. BOTOX—often referred to as “Bro-Tox” among male patients—is the most common cosmetic procedure performed in America according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The organization reports that nearly 337,000 Botulinum Toxin Type A (ie., BOTOX® and Dysport®) procedures were performed on men in 2010.
For those with creases that appear intermittently, such as while smiling or squinting, BOTOX is often the answer. BOTOX is essentially a muscle relaxer intended to prevent creases for an overall more youthful and fresh appearance. Of course, with this new interest from men comes new considerations. Male patients want to enhance their appearance without compromising their natural, masculine looks. We can work together to establish your cosmetic goals and find the best treatment options suited to your needs and concerns.
Today, countless men are turning to Cosmetic Surgery as a means of achieving and maintaining a natural, youthful appearance. According to a recent report from KTNV-TV in Nevada, a 55 year old woman from Flushing, Queens was arrested for performing an illegal cosmetic procedure in a Las Vegas home. Jing Qu—who is unlicensed to practice medicine in New York or Nevada—was allegedly caught in the act of performing eyelid surgery in a “makeshift operating room.” When a neighbor grew frustrated with cars blocking his driveway, all it took was a knock at the door to reveal the illegal medical practice.
Qu, who is presumed innocent until proven guilty, currently faces two counts of practicing medicine without a license. Thankfully, the patient she was operating on was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police are encouraging any other potential victims to come forward with information about Qu’s supposed illegal practice.
This shocking bit of news brings to light the importance of seeking out a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon. While we all know not to patronize an illegal, unlicensed practitioner, there are certain things that every patient should consider before choosing a cosmetic surgeon.
First and foremost is ensuring that the plastic surgeon is Board-Certified. Never be shy about asking for credentials. It’s your right to know. Second, and equally important, is assessing the surgeon’s experience. Before & After pictures can give you a sense of the surgeon’s past work. Although there are other factors to consider, these seemingly simple first steps can mean the difference between choosing a qualified, experienced surgeon, and choosing someone who simply can’t deliver the results you want.

In today’s world, it seems there’s an app for everything, but how about an app to simulate the results of plastic surgery? Seems it’s not a joke. French company, Kaeria EURL, has recently released an application that, in their words, “will let you modify photos to simulate plastic surgery results on anyone’s face and body.” So, what’s the harm in that? Nothing, so long as patients remember that this is only a simulation—nothing more. With the swipe of a finger or the press of a button, users can simulate rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, liposuction and other popular cosmetic procedures.
Although this can be a fun and somewhat informative tool, patients must remember that opting for plastic surgery is a serious decision that requires a great deal of consideration. Meeting with a qualified plastic surgeon is also key. Only we can properly explain to you the potential benefits and risks associated with any cosmetic procedure.
It’s essential to also remember that your expectations should not be based on simulated images. To understand this better, one need only look to the company’s disclaimer: “There can be a huge difference between what can be achieved in the context of a real plastic surgery, and on a computer simulation tool. Only a real, certified surgeon will be able to assess what is realistically achievable. Always ask a certified plastic surgeon about possibilities, risks and financial cost of plastic surgery procedures.” They say it themselves. Although this app is certainly an interesting conversation-starter, it should not—and cannot—be the basis for your cosmetic surgery goals or expectations.
While simulation apps can be fun, if you want to find out what you can really expect from Cosmetic Surgery, contact us and make an appointment. We have offices in Pearl River, NY and Montvale, NJ, and you can reach us at 845-623-6141. Call today!

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the world’s largest plastic surgery specialty organization and publishes yearly statistics on cosmetic surgery. The organization has released their 2010 data and the report is surprising. In 2010, there were over 1.5 million surgical cosmetic procedures performed and over 11.5 million minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures performed, such as Botox and microdermabrasion. Overall, there has been a 5% increase in cosmetic procedures performed since 2009 alone.
Although more and more men are turning to cosmetic surgery today, female patients still outnumber males at a rate of about 9 to 1. The ASPS has also listed the top five cosmetic surgeries performed on women in 2010. Continue reading to find out what surgeries women turned to last year.
Of the over 1.5 million cosmetic surgeries performed in 2010, nearly 1.4 million of those procedures were performed on women.

The famous—or perhaps, infamous—JWoww has recently spoken out, denying rumors that she underwent cosmetic surgery on her face. JWoww, born Jennifer Farley, is a native of Upstate New York, but it’s Jersey where she made a name for herself. An original cast member on MTV’s hit series, Jersey Shore, Farley became known for her tough-girl attitude. She has spoken openly about her breast augmentation, but recent rumors have been circulating on the possibility that she had work done on her face. Farley spoke out on the Wendy Williams show in an attempt to put these claims to rest once and for all. “I want to put it out there,” said the Jersey Shore cast member, “I want to prove everyone wrong.”
Even though JWoww is denying that she’s undergone plastic surgery on her face, it brings to light some of the cosmetic procedures that countless men and women turn to every year.

Ali Lohan, younger sister of the infamous Lindsay Lohan, is denying all rumors that she has undergone plastic surgery to alter her appearance. The seventeen year old aspiring model was recently the focus of heavy media speculation that she went under the knife at far too young an age. Recent photographs have caused many to believe that Lohan has had cosmetic treatments on her cheeks, eyebrows, nose and lips. Although the photographs are compelling, Lohan’s people suggest she was simply going through a growth spurt. Ali, herself, has also spoken out to deny the rumors.
The recent Ali Lohan plastic surgery rumors beg some interesting questions about what makes a good candidate for plastic surgery. Of course, age is a consideration. For nose surgery, good candidates are those whose facial growth is complete. For procedures such as liposuction, there are other age factors to consider, namely the patient’s emotional and psychological development. Lohan’s age was a driving force behind the recent rumors, but it’s not just age that needs to be considered. Here are a few other criteria for good cosmetic surgery candidates.

A woman’s body changes following the birth of a child. Often, these changes are unwelcome and can cause a great deal of distress. Recent mothers often complain of loose skin, stretch marks and sagging or deflated breasts. Thankfully, there are treatment options available.
A wildly popular direction in the world of cosmetic surgery is the “mommy makeover.” This growing trend is popular among women trying to get closer to the appearance they had before childbirth. While diet and exercise may be enough for certain women, doctors have suggested that for some, these goals can only be achieved surgically.
The mommy makeover can take many forms. Often, a combination of treatments are performed in concert, bringing women closer to their pre-baby body. The most common treatments take the form of tummy tucks, breast augmentation and liposuction. For those who are particularly concerned with loose skin, body contouring may be the answer.
Childbirth can be one of the most joyful and rewarding experiences in a woman’s life, but many face distress with the ways their bodies are affected following the experience. While these treatments are not for everyone, for many they can mean the difference between the body they have and the body they want.
The options are endless, and we can work together to fit a mommy makeover to your budget and schedule. Contact us today to learn more about the mommy makeover and other cosmetic surgery options available to you. We have offices in Pearl River, NY and Montvale, NJ, and we can be contacted at 845-623-6141.
